The Smiles and Frowns

News

08/16/10

It is a historical day for The Smiles and Frowns… it is in fact, the official release of our debut album in the UK and Europe, August 16th. It is somewhat like a birthday for the album, or maybe a re-birthday, if you will. We are very grateful that Akoustik Anarkhy and Europe has embraced The Smiles and Frowns, with all of our audio warts and weird tendencies that cause us to battle an upstream swim through the harsh waters of popular music. These songs and sounds have been the product of our existence, purely manifested in the manner of our choosing. We appreciate all the willing ears that continue to consume our recording, and hopefully they will echo on within…

Akoustik Anarkhy

We are excited to announce that our debut album has managed to make its way overseas, and charm itself into the ears of four English gentlemen who go by the collective name of “Akoustik Anarkhy”. This has resulted in a rebirth (with all new packaging) and an official release of our album in the UK and Europe.

Akoustik Anarkhy is an indie record label, and gig night based out of Manchester, England. We not only have the honor of joining the aA family, but also representing their landmark 50th release.

The album is scheduled for release on August 16th, and we certainly hope that our songs are met with happy ears.

If you are interested in obtaining a copy, you may either check back here, or find your way over to their website upon its arrival…

The Nairobi Trio

05/31/10

This is The Nairobi Trio, a brilliantly executed, live action interpretation of a mechanical music box with performing apes…or as I like to see it…one of the coolest bands around. It was created by Ernie Kovacs, and was originally aired on ABC…imagine that. As you watch, this try to get in touch with your inner mechanical ape and enjoy the wonderful little melody twinkling in the background. The second video is not a musical one, but it is just as mad…and I could not resist including it along side of the other one.

The Eye

05/13/10

eye ball

I would like to introduce you to The Eye of The Smiles and Frowns. Nick…A long time friend of ours created this, and I had to share it with you. It is definitely a strange, and creepy looking eye, but those are the qualities that I look for in a good glass eye.
Thanks Nick…it’s awesome!

“Minsato Le, Mi Dayihome”

04/21/10

I don’t know a lot about this West African band, but I do know that I love to watch these strange puppets dance to their music. They seem to bounce around with a rather frighteningly believable charm. The Band is called Orchestre Poly-Rythmo de Cotonou Dahomey and the wonderful song that they are playing is “Minsato Le, Mi Dayihome
